Automated Luggage Assistant (2020)

DESCRIPTION

This robotic platform was designed to assist the elderly and disabled in carrying cumbersome/heavy loads, such as shopping or luggage. Using a combination of Infrared sensors, a magnetic compass module and the GPS data from a smart device such as a mobile phone, this robotic base uses its own independent GPS to locate and efficiently follow you. Carrying up to 30kg, it is capable of climbing steep hills and going over any paved surface or road. The battery is easily replaceable and upgradeable, allowing for operation times over 2.5 hours.

AIM

The concept behind this project was to provide greater freedom and mobility to those who struggle with carrying heavier luggage. I was initially inspired by my grandma who lives in the same household as my family, she loves shopping at the weekly markets but tends to struggle and require help with heavier loads of groceries and shopping. I sought to create this robot as a prototype, proof-of-concept for something that could potentially one day help her and others like her.
