Smart Hand Sanitiser (2020)

DESCRIPTION

This entirely 3D-printed sanitising station uses alcohol and UV lights to clean and eliminate bacteria on the users hands. Internally, it can hold half a litre of sanitising liquid. Additionally, it uses a ranged thermometer to measure the users temperature, monitoring for symptoms of COVID, without contacting the station. Designed for the classroom and workplace environment, it features a NFC and magnetic code card reader where students or employees can use their ID cards to mark down attendance and log their associated temperature and symptomatic data in a central server. The screen interface and LEDS at the spray nozzle let the user know the appropriate time to measure temperature, insert their ID and hold their hands out for the spray.

AIM

This was designed and built when COVID cases were at their highest. During this time, my high school had introduced procedures to help minimize the risk of disease spread, however, they were often unorganised and I had noticed that checking and sanitisation was inconsistent throughout. The design of the Sanitising station aimed to combine the symptom checking and sanitising procedures implemented by the school into the already existing attendance system to create a safer and more secure environment at school by ensuring the classroom was clean and COVID free. After discussion with my parents, they had mentioned that a similar problem was facing them at work and thus some modifications were introduced to the design, such as NFC ID card readers and the new data management, to integrate into the office structure and address this problem.
